We’ve been working on our summer bodies since New Years! The warm weather is here, chances are you have already shown it off, so give yourself a treat today and stop in your local bakery to celebrate! Friday June 7th, 2019 is National Donut Day!
Falling on the first Friday of every June, National Donut Day was started in 1939 as part of the Chicago Salvation Army’s mission to raise money for those in need during the Great Depression.
Each year on the first Friday in June, they would have volunteers bake the fresh donuts which sent their delicious scents permeating through the town. This drew in people, including homesick soldiers who would receive thank you donuts for their services.
Word spread fast among soldiers and voila, National Donut Day was born. And while the Great Depression has come and gone, National Donut Day is still a great way to honor the memory of those soldiers.
So go out and get yourself one.
Dunkin Donuts is offering a free donut with any beverage.
Krispy Kreme is giving away a free donut- no strings attached: just come and get it.
Veterans get their free donuts straight from the Salvation Army.
Check your local bakeries for deals, especially veterans. After all, that’s what National Donut Day is all about.
